Introduction
A project type is a way to organize projects into groups with a standard configuration.
For this reason, it is important to configure types considering the projects that will be created from them.
In this article, as an example, we will configure a type that will be used to create software development projects.
Configuring a project type
Watch the video below and learn how to configure a project type:
Configuring the Optional tab
In the Optional tab, it is possible to set configurations referring to billing, service reports, integrations, project customers, and more. To do so, configure the following tabs:
Customer/Supplier
In the Customer/Supplier subtab, it is possible to parameterize details referring to the association of customers and suppliers with the projects of the type. The following options are available:
- Required: check this field for the association of customers/suppliers with the projects to be mandatory.
- Restrict changes to planning or revision situations: check this option to make it possible to associate customers/suppliers with projects when the latter are under planning or revision.
Task
In the Task subtab, it is possible to set the following parameterizations referring to the tasks belonging to the projects of the type:
- Default task type: select the task type that will classify, by default, the tasks added to the projects of the type. The selected type can be changed during project planning.
- Generate automatic identifier in the tasks: check this option so that, when templates and projects are added with the type, the "Generate automatic identifier in the tasks" option is shown checked by the system. When it is defined that the ID # of the tasks will be generated automatically, the system will first generate a sequential number, which cannot be edited, in order to identify the tasks added to the project.
Mask
In the Mask subtab, it is possible to parameterize the use of the automatic identification feature when adding projects with the type. To this end, check the "Use mask for identification" option and select the desired identification mask in the field that will be enabled. Only masks whose object is "Project" will be available for selection.
Integrations
In the Integrations subtab, it is possible to integrate the project type with other components. This allows for creating objects in other SoftExpert Suite components from the projects of the type. Check the "Enable automation" option and, in the Component field, select the desired option:
- APQP/PPAP: select this option to create APQPs from the projects of the type. The other fields will be filled in with the object (APQP/PPAP) and with the operation to be performed (APQP project).
- Audit: select this option to create audits from the projects of the type. The other fields will be filled in with the object (audit) and with the operation to be performed (audit project).
View profile
In the View profile subtab, it is possible to associate a view profile that will be applied to the visions of the schedule and to the SE GanttChart of the projects belonging to the type. To this end, in the respective field, select the desired view profile. Only the view profiles of the projects will be available for selection.

Time format
Define the time format that will be used to manage the duration/effort of the tasks referring to the projects of the type: days or hours. The availability of the fields described below may vary according to the selected option.
Use options based on timesheet calculation?
This option will only be available if the defined time format is "Hours". Check this option to use the effort applied to the tasks as a basis to calculate the schedule of the projects of the type. An effort can be understood as labor, that is, it is the number of manpower units required to finish a task. Then, define how the remaining effort will be calculated. To do so, select one of the following options:
- Remaining effort (RE) = Estimated hours - Actual hours: the effort necessary to finish a task will be calculated by subtracting the planned hours from the executed hours.
- Remaining effort (RE) = User inputs task closure estimate: the user will insert the effort necessary to finish the task when filling out the timesheet.
- Remaining effort (RE) = (Actual hours) * (100 - % finished) / % finished: the effort necessary to finish a task will be calculated by the number of executed hours, multiplied by the total percentage of hours planned for it, and the product will be divided by the executed percentage of the task. In the ___ Starting from % field, enter the executed percentage of the tasks referring to the projects of the type; the remaining effort will be calculated from said percentage.
Enable automatic recalculation of schedule
This option will only be available if the defined time format is "Days". Check this option for the schedule to be recalculated automatically by the system, in accordance with the rescheduling of the execution dates for the tasks referring to the projects of the type. If this option is not checked, the schedule will not be recalculated automatically. Thus, if a project task is executed before the estimated deadline, the execution of the successor task will not be advanced, that is, the rescheduled dates will not be influenced by the completion dates.
Duration controlled by effort
This option will only be available if the defined time format is "Hours". Check this option for the duration of the tasks referring to the projects of the type, in the schedule, to be calculated on the basis of the effort. If this option is not checked, the effort will not influence the duration of the task.

Conclusion
After configuring the type according to your needs, the next step of the flow is to create a project template.
It is also possible to use a type to plan a blank project, in case you are not following the project template flow.
