Configuring an Oracle (Thin) data source

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Data source management > Data sources > Database (DI003) menu.
  • Having an Oracle database instance installed and configured in your infrastructure.

Introduction

To simplify the configuration of a data source for connection to an external Oracle database, which is not SoftExpert Suite's primary base, the system provides a driver option called Oracle Thin.

The Oracle Thin driver simplifies the configuration process by dispensing with the need for having the configuration files (tnsnames.ora and SQLNet.ora) present during the installation of SoftExpert Suite.

Users can configure the connection to the Oracle database more directly and without depending on the presence of these configuration files.

See how to create an Oracle Thin data source in the system:

Configuring an Oracle (Thin) data source

1. Access the Data source management > Data sources > Database (DI003) menu.

2. Click on the button.

3. In the Driver field, choose the Oracle (Thin) option.

4. Enter the Oracle database connection information, including database name, host, port, username, and password.

5. Test the connection by clicking on the button.

6. If the connection is successful, the message Successful connection will be displayed; click on the button.

In the Database name field, enter the Oracle SERVICE_NAME.

Make sure that your SoftExpert Suite instance has access to the Oracle database and that the inserted credentials are correct.

Additionally, a user account with the minimum required permissions is recommended for access to the desired data.

Support to the use of Oracle OCI8 data source types has been interrupted.

Conclusion

All done! The Oracle data source is now created and can be used in external attributes, in SoftExpert Analytics, or in datasets.
