Configuring file storage

Prerequisite

  • Access to the Configuration > System (CM006) menu.

Introduction

Through the System (CM006) menu, it is possible to configure how the attachments and electronic files uploaded to the system will be stored.

See how to use this menu:

Configuring file storage

1. Access the Configuration > System (CM006) menu.

2. Select the File storage tab.

3. Perform the necessary configurations:

Limits

File size limit: enter the maximum size, in megabytes (MB), that the attachments and electronic files may have in order to be uploaded to the system.

In environments with PostgreSQL, if the Attachment field is configured for attachments to be stored in a database, storing files with 30 MB or more will not be possible.

In this case, we recommend enabling the Use controlled directory option.

Upload security: select only one option if you wish to restrict file extensions in the system.

  • Allow extensions: select this option to define that only certain file extensions will be accepted in SoftExpert Suite.
  • Block extensions: select this option to define that certain file extensions will not be accepted in SoftExpert Suite.

List of extensions: specify which extensions will be allowed/blocked, according to the option selected in the Upload security field. Enter the extensions separated by ";".

For example, if "exe;php" is entered, if there is an attempt to upload a file with one of these extensions, the system will inform the user about the blocking. If no option is selected in the Upload security field, this field can be ignored.

RichText

Use this section to define the storage configurations for the RichText content available on some system screens.

File size limit: define the maximum size that each RichText content may have on the system screens. This limit covers texts and images.

In environments with PostgreSQL, if RichText content is stored in a database, storing content with 30 MB or more will not be possible.

In this case, we recommend enabling the Use controlled directory option. If this configuration is enabled, it will be applied only to new files, whereas the files added before the change will remain with the former rule.

Use controlled directory: enable this option so that RichText content is stored in a controlled directory. In the Path field, select the desired controlled directory.

The controlled directories available for selection are those configured in the Configuration > Controlled directory (AD029) menu of the Administration component, provided that they are duly configured and have no external server configuration.

If necessary, use the Add button to configure a new controlled directory and use it to store RichText content.

If this option remains disabled, no RichText content will be stored in a database.

Files added to forms

Use this section to set storage configurations for files inserted through fields of the File type in forms created in SoftExpert Form.

Use controlled directory: enable this option so that the files inserted in the forms are stored in a controlled directory. In this case, in the Path field, select the desired controlled directory, and, in the Saving mode field, define whether the files will be stored in the regular or compressed way.

The controlled directories available for selection are those configured in the Configuration > Controlled directory (AD029) menu of the Administration component, provided that they are duly configured and have no external server configuration.

If necessary, use the Add button to configure a new controlled directory and use it to store the files.

If this option remains disabled, the files will be stored in a database.

If the Use controlled directory configuration is enabled, it will be applied only to new files, whereas the files added before the change will remain with the former rule.

Attachment

In this section, it is possible to define how the attachments uploaded to the system will be stored.

Use controlled directory: enable this option in order for attachments to be stored in a controlled directory. In this case, in the Path field, select the desired controlled directory, and, in the Saving mode field, define whether the attachments will be stored in the regular or compressed way.

The controlled directories available for selection are those configured in the Configuration > Controlled directory (AD029) menu of the Administration component, provided that they are duly configured and have no external server configuration.

If necessary, use the Add button to configure a new controlled directory and use it to store the files.

If this option remains disabled, the attachments will be stored in a database and will always be saved compressed.

If the Use controlled directory configuration is enabled, it will be applied only to new files, whereas the attachments added before the change will remain with the former rule.

For attachments to be viewed more easily, it is possible to define a default sorting for them.

They can be sorted by name, size, or change date/time, which are options available in all components that contain the attachment resource.

By default, the sorting will be in ascending order, but, if you wish for it to be descending, simply select the Descending order option right below the Order by field.

Capture

In this section, it is possible to define how the files inserted in the system through the capture process will be stored.

Use controlled directory: enable this option in order for the files to be stored in a controlled directory.

If this option remains disabled, the files will be stored in a database and will always be saved compressed.
