Stratifying a collection

Prerequisites

Introduction

Stratifying a data collection consists of dividing acquired information into groups (strata), in order to search for the causes or origins of a problem. This resource is essential to identify patterns and create charts.

For example: imagine that a team is monitoring the weight of a part on a production line. By stratifying collection data based on shift, machine, and operator, it is possible to identify whether a specific shift or machine is presenting greater variation in the part's weight. This way, it will be possible to apply corrective actions directly to those points, instead of making changes to the entire process.

In data collection stratification, especially in the Summary vision, calculations are based on applied filters.

Below, see the steps for stratifying a data collection with the summarized vision:

Stratifying a collection with summarized vision

1. Access the View > Stratification (SP008) menu.

2. In the Visions field, select the summary vision.

3. In the Advanced filters, click on the button and add the filters that suit your search.

4. Click on the Search button.

5. Select a characteristic and click on the desired chart to analyze the information.

By changing the Visions field to the "Details" option, the stratification will display the data of each collected sample, in addition to presenting calculations, such as average, range, and standard deviation, for the sample.

Available charts

  • Average and range
  • Average and standard deviation
  • Evaluation ranges
  • Stoplight chart
  • Histogram
  • Box-Plot

See the specifications of each option in the How to enable collection analysis charts article.

Conclusion

Thus, it is possible to stratify a data collection and print a report with the obtained results.
