Configuring an asset CMDB
Prerequisites
- Access to the File > Asset definition (AS016) menu.
- Previously created asset.
- Previously created relationship type.
Introduction
The CMDB is a repository that relates assets and processes referring to IT infrastructure, systems, and business in a diagram. Its objective is to enable an organized data view so that users can perform analyses from any perspective. The main characteristic of this resource is to provide information on the impacts and risks derived from the modification of an asset or process.
See how to configure the CMDB of an asset:
Configuring an asset CMDB
1. Access the File > Asset definition (AS016) menu.
2. Find and select the asset for which you want to create a CMDB
3. Click on the button.
4. To add an asset in the CMDB structure, select "Asset" in the Object type field.
5. Select the relationship that the asset will establish in the structure.
6. Check the asset that will be included in the structure.
7. Click on the Add button.
8. To add processes in the CMDB structure, select "Process" in the Object type field.
9. Select the relationship that the process will establish in the structure.
10. Check the process that will be included in the structure.
11. Click on the Add button.
- It is possible to check and add more than one object at a time, but the same relationship will be used to add the selected objects.
- Processes can only be associated from assets, that is, if the structure already has a process, when it is selected, only assets can be associated.
- If an asset that already has a CMDB structure is added, said structure will be imported to the structure of the asset selected at step 2.
Conclusion
Once the desired objects are added, they can be moved in the diagram as desired! It is also possible to edit the relationships or delete the objects. To do so, simply click on the name of the relationship in the diagram so that the options are displayed.
