Managing software licenses

Prerequisites

Introduction

Software licenses

The licenses acquired by the organization are registered through the Management > Computers > Software license (AS083) menu. In the records, the software that have derived from the computer import and that correspond to the licenses are defined.

Thus, it becomes possible to map all the assets that have the licenses and the software, in order for the number of licenses that are available and in use to be known, with information on who are using them and how much they cost.

For example: an organization buys 50 licenses of a program, which can be used on 50 computers for 5 years. After the inventory, the organization is able to map how many computers have the license installed, how many are not being used, and more information. After 5 years, the system warns that the license has expired.

Software

The Management > Computers > Software (AS085) menu lists all pieces of software in the system, regardless of the computer to which they belong.

On this menu, the software are identified as validated (linking them to a license), ignored (allowing for the software to be installed without the organization's license), and prohibited (blocking them from being installed, as the organization does not have their license).

For example: when the organization does not have a certain license, the system can be configured to identify any pieces of software that appear with the license, marking them as blocked.

From this menu, it is also possible to establish associations between software and licenses already registered.
