Adding a CMM file configuration
Prerequisites
- Access to the File > CMM file configuration (SP029) menu.
- CMM-generated file.
Introduction
Coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs) capture the geometric aspects of a piece and generate a file containing the values detected in the readings of the characteristics.
The first step to use this data in the system is to add the CMM file configuration.
During this stage, the output file generated by the machine is imported into the system, allowing for mapping the available data and preparing the system to recognize the structure of the files that will be used in the subsequent steps.
To be able to follow the steps more clearly, see how the data mapping screen works below. The highlighted areas will be mentioned later:

A Indicates the current status of the automatic saving of information in the system.
B Displays the data imported from the output file. The data selected in this area will be used during the data collection process and analysis.
C Displays the data selected in the main panel (B). Information from this list can be used to insert data such as machine, operator, shift, inspector, gage, batch, etc.
D Allows for associating two or three selections from the list (C) to create a characteristic association. The system searches for the association text and optional data and then reads the value. All occurrences that correspond to this standard will generate a reading for the collection.
E Displays selection management buttons:
- Add selected information to the list (B).
- Remove selection from the list (C).
- Do or undo the association between lists (C) and (D). Using the CTRL key, it is possible to perform mass deletions and disassociations.
Adding a CMM configuration
- The CMM-generated file must have .txt or .csv.
- The output configuration of the machine can be checked in the equipment's manual or directly with the manufacturer.
6. Click on the
button. The characteristic mapping screen will open.
7. Click and drag the mouse over the cells to select the information to be imported. They will be highlighted in yellow.
8. Click on the
button or press ENTER to add the selected text, sending the information to the Field (C).
9. Repeat this operation, now selecting the numeric value referring to the first collected piece of information.
10. Keep the CTRL key pressed to select both pieces of information from the Field and send them to the list (D).
11. Click on the Associate button so that both texts from the (C) list form an association record in the (D) list.

The changes made to the record are saved automatically.
Conclusion
Now that the mapping has been completed, it is necessary to associate the CMM file configuration with the collection. Refer to the Associating a CMM file configuration with a collection and learn how to perform this operation.
