Adding tasks to the schedule

Prerequisites

  • Access to the File > Project template (PR004) menu, to the Management > Project planning (PR011) menu, or to the Management > Project tracking (PR013) menu.
  • Previously created project template or project.

Introduction

The schedule allows for building a structure of projects, programs, and portfolios to graphically represent their information.

The schedules of objects are accessed through the button in their respective creation and planning menus.

This article will cover the process of adding objects to the schedule in order to build a structure. To illustrate, we will add the tasks of a software development project schedule.

Adding objects to the schedule

Watch the video below and learn how to add tasks to the schedule:

On adding predecessor tasks:

  • All tasks contained in the project structure will be available for selection. Note that it is possible to add more than one predecessor task.
  • To undo the dependency link between the task in question and another task, simply select the desired task in the list of records and click on the "Delete" button displayed on the side toolbar.

On the Check task as milestone? option, note that:

  • This option will be automatically checked by the system if the duration defined for the task is equal to 0.
  • If the duration of a task is changed to a value different from zero, this option is automatically unchecked.
  • In the chart, the task will then be represented as a single task, considering its duration and start and end dates.
  • If a task defined as milestone and with a duration greater than zero has its duration changed to a value different from zero, this option will not be unchecked automatically. In the chart, it will be represented as a milestone on the end date of the task.
  • If this option is checked in a task whose duration is greater than zero, the duration of the task will not be automatically changed to zero. In the chart, it will be represented as a milestone on the end date of the task.

Conclusion

Now that the tasks, projects, and programs have been added to the schedule structure, it is much easier to track the progress of all processes.
