Configuring calibration variables

Prerequisite

  • Access to the Configuration > Calibration variable (MA038) menu.

Introduction

The system allows for creating additional variables to be measured during gage calibration. These variables are associated with the calibration table of the standard activity used in the calibration plan and influence the measurement process. Therefore, it is very important to configure them properly, thinking about the usefulness they will have later on in the calibration.

Types of calibration variables

  • Constant: the variable has a constant value. Example: Pi = 3.14.
  • Input based on point: the variable is measured at several different points on the same asset.
  • Input based on reading: the variable is measured several times at the same point.

Resource characteristics

Variables are linked to standard activity tables, ensuring that all necessary measurements are considered in the calibration plan.

Additionally, variables support measurement unit conversion during calibration. Each variable can have an input and an output measurement unit.

Practical example

When calibrating a pressure gauge, for example, you can include additional variables such as room temperature (constant) and the pressure at different points of the meter (input based on point). During the calibration, the system will consider these variables and convert the measurement units as necessary.

Configuring calibration variables

1. Access the Configuration > Calibration variable (MA038) menu.

2. Click on the toolbar button.

3. On the screen that will open, enter an ID # and a name for the variable.

4. Click on the button to save the record.

Conclusion

Once saved, the record can be used in calibration tables.

With the calibration variable feature, the system offers flexibility by allowing measurements to be taken at different points or multiple times at the same point, enabling asset calibration to adapt to the specific needs of each piece of equipment.
