Presentation

Failure controls are the activities used to prevent or detect the cause of a failure or the failure mode itself. 

In the context of FMEA, the main objective is to anticipate the most relevant problems and act to prevent their occurrence or minimize their impact when they do occur.

Controls focused on prevention tend to generate a greater return for the organization, as they act directly on the cause of the failure. Common examples of failure controls include design reviews, inspection plans, test plans, and audits.

Register fault control

1. Access the menu Registration > Fault Control (FM007).

2. In the main screen toolbar, click the arrow next to the button and select the type of FMEA to which fault control will be applied:

• Design FMEA.
• Process FMEA.
• Asset FMEA.
• Project Schedule FMEA.
• Object FMEA.

3. In the Name field, enter a name that clearly identifies the fault control.

4. In the Description field, provide a detailed description of the fault control system, explaining how it works to prevent or detect faults.

5. After filling in the fields, click to complete the registration.

After registration, the fault controls become available for selection during:

• The FMEA framework is assembled by recording controls associated with the causes or failure modes.
• The assessment of the detection criteria directly influences the risk indices of the analysis.
