Configuring measurement conversion

Prerequisites

Introduction

Through the Measurement conversion (MA031) menu, it is possible to create formulas that express the same measure on another unit scale, without any loss. These formulas are used to convert calculations performed in calibrations, in which it is common for values to be in different measurement units.

In the calibration table, for example, if the output measurement unit for a variable is different from its input measurement unit, the corresponding measurement conversion must be selected. To this end, the respective formulas for converting the measurement units must have been created in the system.

See how to configure measurement conversion:

Configuring measurement conversion

1. Access the Configuration > Measurement conversion (MA031) menu.

2. Click on the toolbar button.

3. On the screen that will open, in the From field, select the measurement unit to be converted.

4. In the To field, select the measurement unit to which the previous unit must be converted.

5. Use the fields in the Formula section to set up the calculation that must be performed in the conversion.

Use the + (addition) or - (subtraction) operations if the unit to be converted needs an additional measurement.

6. Use the fields in the Equation section to build a test for the provided formula.

7. Then, click on the Evaluate formula button to calculate the entered values and run the test.

8. If the formula is correct, click on the button to save the record.

Example

The illustration above demonstrated how to configure a conversion from meters to centimeters.

First, the "m - Meter" measurement unit was selected in the From field.

In the To field, the "cm - Centimeter" measurement unit was selected.

These measurement units were previously created through the Configuration > Measurement unit (MA044) menu of the component.

Then, the equivalence units were entered to perform the conversion: 1 m = 100 cm.

In the Equation section, the value "10 m" was entered to test the formula.

When the Evaluate formula button was clicked, the system presented the following result: "10m is equivalent to 1000 cm"; this proves that the formula works and that the values were converted correctly.

Conclusion

Once saved, the record will be ready to convert the selected measurement units when needed! The system will use the configured formula to perform the conversion. Therefore, make sure the data is correct before saving.
